This blog is the place where we'll share our experiences in more detail, may it be a competition, training camp, new training gear discoveries and everything related to artistic swimming. You'll have the opportunity to read about our goals and dreams, events we organize or participate in. Let this blog be our teams diary, where we also share training tips and tricks, discuss artistic swimming rules or just post beautiful images linked to our sport.
That being said, it is time to get to know us and our sport a little better.
What is artistic swimming?
Often called synchronized swimming, this unique Olympic sport is the perfect combination between beauty and strength, that creates an absolute harmony between the music, the athletes movements and clothing. This way, the athlete becomes not only a sportsperson, but an artist that has a story to tell with the choreography. Artistic swimming combines swimming with dance movements and gymnastics skills to create perhaps the most beautiful sport.
Here are a few facts about artistic swimming:
Its highest governing body internationally is FINA.
It was introduced in the Summer Olympics in 1984
It was first known as water ballet
Artistic swimming events include: combination, free and technical team, free and technical duet, free and technical solo
Swimmers synchronize not only with the music but also with each other
Artistic swimming skills include sculls, eggbeater, basic body positions, lifts and highlights, figures
In Romania, it was first introduced in 1954, but it disappeared after just 3 years due to financial reasons
In 2013 it appeared again in Brasov, Romania
Now that we gave you a bit of a background on artistic swimming, we can tell you about ourselves, our achievements and our mission.
About SynchRo
This artistic swimming team is the definition of hard work, perseverance and passion and is Romania's first artistic swimming team after 59 years. Formed in the spring of 2013 by coach Ciohodaru (Dima) Ana-Cristina, it slowly started to popularize this Olympic sport in Romania. Led by dedication and determination, the team now has a total number of 15 athletes, an assistant coach and a head coach.
In its 10 years of activity, 20+ athletes had great results at national and international competitions. From the first lessons in 2013 and the first official representation in 2014, this team grew to participate at the first competitions and get their first national medals, to appear in TV shows and win their first international medals, as well as organize its own events.
As of now on, we hope to further popularize this beautiful sport in Romania, to create an environment in Brasov that motivates and helps kids to start practicing artistic swimming and become as good as they can get to achieve their hopes and dreams.
